Franklin D. Roosevelt Airport (EUX)

Franklin D. Roosevelt Airport (EUX) is your gateway to St. Eustatius, accessible via a short 20-minute flight from St. Maarten's Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). St. Eustatius is located just 53 kilometers southwest of St. Maarten, making it a quick and convenient destination.

The airport is named after the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose ancestors lived on the island in the 18th century. St. Eustatius holds a unique place in American history, as it was the first country to recognize the sovereignty of the newly independent United States in 1776. President Roosevelt acknowledged this historic gesture during his visit to the island in 1939, and in his honor, the airport—originally known as Black Rock—was renamed after him.

The airport is small and currently does not accommodate scheduled international flights. The primary way to reach St. Eustatius is by taking a connecting flight from nearby St. Maarten, which receives international flights from major destinations such as Philadelphia, Charlotte, Paris, and Amsterdam. These connecting flights to St. Eustatius are typically operated by light, propeller-powered aircraft.

While the airport features a single, small terminal building with limited services, it is conveniently located in Oranjestad, just a short 10-minute taxi ride from the downtown area. Plans are underway to extend the runway by 1,000 feet, which will allow for larger jets and an expansion of destinations.
