La Jolla is a hilly, seaside neighborhood within the city of San Diego, occupying 7 miles (11 km) of curving coastline along the Pacific Ocean. La Jolla is surrounded on three sides by ocean bluffs and beaches and is located 12 miles (19 km) north of Downtown San Diego and 45 miles (72 km) south of the Orange County line.


La Jolla is a small seaside neighborhood known for its rugged coastline. In the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, hiking trails lead past pine trees and sandstone cliffs. The two golf courses of the world famous Torrey Pines Golf Course sit atop the sea cliffs. La Jolla Cove offers breathtaking views of the ocean and the tide pools of Shell Beach are home to anemones and crabs. The chic waterfront boutiques and restaurants of La Jolla Village are within walking distance.
